To ensure our specialist bereavement support can help people now and in the future, we’ll be introducing a £30 charge per session for adults accessing bereavement counselling from 1 April 2025. This will not apply to our children and young people’s service.
Just ‘B’ receives no government funding. We rely on donations, grants and working together with other organisations, schools and partners to provide our services.
As demand for our services grows and costs of providing our support rise, without additional funding we’ve had to make this challenging decision to ensure the continued delivery of our much-needed support.
To make sure this charge remains accessible and in line with our values and mission, we’ve taken the decision to cap and subsidise at £30 per session – well below the national average for bereavement support provision. We recognise not everyone will be able to afford this charge, and we’ll work on a client-by-client basis to identify help and solutions for those who are not able to pay.
This decision will ultimately safeguard our service to continue the specialist bereavement support that so many members of our community rely upon when it’s most needed – providing us with vital funding. Without taking this decision now, we believe the service would no longer be able to sustain itself and our support, in this form, would no longer exist.
